Season must have: Uvistat SPF50 Lipscreen £4.95
Protecting your lips is as easy as one, two, three and takes just seconds.
But did you know that protecting your lips from the sun could also help avoid those all too embarrassing cold sores?
Cold sores are down to the herpes simplex virus 1 (HSV1). About one in five people in the UK have recurring cold sores. When you contract the virus, you have it for life. It can be passed on very easily – by kissing a carrier, sharing a toothbrush or sharing kitchen utensils. Most of the time the virus remains inactive but when it flares up, that’s when the dreaded cold sore appears.
So what can you do as a preventative measure? Cold sores are triggered by many things – stress, colds and flu, strong winds and sunlight. The triggers are very individual, however for some people, sunlight is a serious cause, but one that can easily be prevented.
The most obvious thing to do is to protect your lips daily with a lipscreen with UV protection which will not only help prevent cold sores, but protect your lips from harmful sun damage.
Uvistat is one of the most effective lipscreens on the market with both high factor UVA and UVB protection. The UVA screen protects against the aging and carcinogenic rays of the sun, whereas the UVB screen acts against burning. As well as preventing dry and chapped lips, the lipscreen also protects against cold sores and is colourless – so ideal for use at any time of the day. It contains vitamin E and tea tree oil which both help in the repair of sun damaged tissue.
